Jeff Taylor makes Modified Big Dance start at IMCA Super Nationals
Jeff Taylor's early-September trip to Boone (Iowa) Speedway ended with him racing in the Modified A-Main on the final night of the 43rd Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals at the famed 1/3-mile oval.
When competition got underway on Wednesday evening, a whopping 243 Modifieds filled the pit area, including Taylor’s No. 5 machine. Taylor kicked off the nearly weeklong program with a win in his heat race and a 15th-to-11th run in his 25-lap feature.
Thursday saw Taylor take fourth in his heat and then charge from 10th to fourth in his B-Main. However, he came up shy of a transfer spot into one of the night’s 25-lap Modified feature events.
On Friday, Taylor steered from eighth to second in his heat race and rolled off 15th in his A-Main. He came home 12th in the 25-lapper.
During Saturday’s finale festivities, Taylor grabbed the checkers in his Last Chance Heat after starting from the pole. He went on to start first and finish second in his Last Chance A Feature, earning him a spot in the prestigious Modified Big Dance. He started 28th in the 40-lap, $10,000-to-win main event and climbed eight positions to finish 20th.
